This past Saturday…

Mathew’s class learned the story of Joseph and his brothers.  Families finding ways to get along was carried over from last weeks session on Jacob and Esau. Ask your child about the importance of family. The children also learned the names of some of the colours on Josephs coat and made a “coat” of their own. See if they could recite them to you!!

Donna’s class learned about Rebecca and the well. The class discussed how Rebecca came to be Isaac’s wife. Ask your child why it was important for Isaac to find a wife. The also class worked cooperatively to try and help Rebecca  “fill the bucket with well water” (styrofoam peanuts!!). Ask your child which part of this task was the most challenging? How might this have been for Rebecca?

Anna Bella’s class learned about Bikur Cholim/ visiting the sick. They learned the term Refuah Shelamah and read a story about Dr. Mitzvah who found clever ways of performing this mitzvah.  See if they can recite the ways he did. Which ones might they do for themselves?

Linda and Kelly’s  ethics class focused respect for others and the need to comprimise. Students worked with Jewish texts to learn what Judaism has to say about about comprimise. They created a visual representation which was shared at SFT. Ask your child about their assignment and what was the process they undertook to complete it.

Chari’s ethics class followed Linda and Kelly’s lead last week and introduced the Kesharim Bet/ grade 6 students to Tikun Olam Heroes. They “met” Abraham Joshua Heschel, Baron Edmund De Rothschild and Abraham our forefather who were by definition Jewish Tikun heroes by virtue of their actions. Ask your child how this is so.

Aron’s Torah class focused on the Mama’s and the Papa’s/ Patriarchs and Matriarchs. After a quick tour of chapter and verse, the students spent time trying to determine why these lineage was given the title of patriarch/matriarch. Ask your child about the lineage (who was first, second third) and why they were considered the lineage.

Chari’s  Torah class  focused on consequences of choices by looking at the story of Lot and his wife and Moses when he hit the rock.  Ask them about our debate around personal consequences.

Linda and Kelly’s Yachad class attended services this week.

And Finally…
